Canvas Commons and Design Templates
This article pertains to Canvas LMS for Grades 4 ~12 and contains design templates for your use.
Especially new faculty who are not familiar with Canvas or Aoba’s approach may find the following information useful in getting started with designing their courses.

When designing your content in Canvas LMS, we recommend, design for online, deliver in person. This way, whoever isn’t there in person can always follow along (i.e. students who miss classes, parents, coordinators, other teachers and staff.)
We strongly encourage using the following templates in addition to content specific resources so that all Aoba Canvas courses have a unified design. This way anyone at Aoba can jump in and be greeted with familiar starting point and navigational structure.
A-JIS Course Template 2024-2025 (includes both Homepage module and unit planning module)
Aoba Homepage Template (home module)
A-JIS Unit Planning Template 2024-2025 (unit planning module)
These templates should already be automatically added to all Canvas courses from AY 2024-2025.
These templates are a much more streamlined version of the previous course planning template and should provide more instructional design freedom outside the school's required Aoba Inquiry Cycle structure.
To access, please follow these steps:
You can click the hyperlinks above or go there manually by navigating to the "Commons" tab in the left-hand menu (Global Navigation) of Canvas. (QUICK LINK to Canvas Commons) Once there, you can search for them by name.
To import to your Canvas sandbox or course, follow these steps:
Click on the resource you want to use. On the right side, click the blue button 'Import/Download' and then choose which course you want to import a copy to.

We hope you find this design valuable for your course planning. These templates have been developed with the goal of enhancing your teaching experience and ensuring consistency in instructional design across the school. As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated as it will help us make improvements!
If you have any questions or need assistance with accessing or using these templates, please feel free to reach out to help@aobajapan.jp (technology integration specialist) for technical help, or your coordinator for pedagogical and curriculum assistance.
