JumpCloud

What is Jumpcloud?

JumpCloud is an identity and access management (IAM) platform designed to help organizations manage user identities and access to various resources, including devices, applications, and networks. It's often categorized as a Directory-as-a-Service (DaaS) solution. JumpCloud provides a central hub for managing and securing user authentication and authorization across a variety of IT resources.

Key features of JumpCloud include:

  1. Directory Services: JumpCloud serves as a cloud-based directory service that helps manage user identities and access permissions. It can integrate with various platforms, including Windows, macOS, and Linux systems.

  2. Single Sign-On (SSO): JumpCloud offers Single Sign-On capabilities, allowing users to access multiple applications with a single set of credentials, enhancing security and user convenience.

  3. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): MFA adds an extra layer of security by requiring users to provide multiple forms of authentication before gaining access to their accounts and resources.

  4. Device Management: Organizations can use JumpCloud to manage and secure user devices, whether they are company-owned or BYOD (Bring Your Own Device).

  5. Directory Integration: JumpCloud can integrate with other directory services like Active Directory, LDAP, and Google Workspace, making it easier to extend your existing directory to the cloud.

  6. API Integrations: JumpCloud provides APIs for custom integrations, allowing organizations to connect their applications and services to the JumpCloud platform.

JumpCloud is used by AOBA to streamline user management, enforce security policies, and enhance the overall IT infrastructure's security and efficiency.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Your Jumpcloud credentials control your Google/Microsoft credentials they all share the same username and password. For example:

    1. Jumpcloud username: joedoe@aobajapan.jp → Google username: joedoe@aobajapan.jp

    2. Jumpcloud password: pass1234 → Google password: pass1234

    3. If you change your Jumpcloud password your Google password/Microsoft password will also be changed.

  2. Your Papercut login for printing and wifi network accessibility are ALSO controlled by Jumpcloud but your usernames only include the prefix for your AOBA email. For example:
